goods shed regeneration, aberdeen
conservation project adjacent to aberdeen harbour
9 Aug 2007
Our primary concern in this project was to retain enough of the geometrical stamp of the railway and its ancillary buildings in order to make the connection to the harbour and the fishing and oil industry, which was and is so important to Aberdeen’s rapid growth from the 19th Century onwards, and to reconnect the site with the adjacent Aberdeen railway station. In order to differentiate the old pattern from new uses we imposed a strong controlling geometry relating to new functions, tennis courts, parking, parkland, gardens etc. The contrast allowing the new and the old to be clearly read.
