  • Contract type - Design & Build
  • Architect - Richard Murphy Architects
  • Role - Technical / Site / Administration

Richard Murphy Architects was commissioned to design the interior of the new British Embassy in the Macedonian capital, Skopje. The building housing the embassy is a concrete framed building with brick infill panels and is leased from the Seismological Institute.

Richard Murphy Architects inherited a utilitarian scheme from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s own in house design team and added a strong Identity to the building primarily by adapting the scheme to work with the existing buildings own structural logic, expressed in the coffered slabs, and using a limited palate of materials and colours .

The project was procured under a design and build contract using two contractors, and went from design to practical completion in just eight months. I was fully involved in the job including site inspection along with associate Matt Bremner.
